In Bona Fide

In Bona Fide (translation: ‘with good intentions’, ‘in good faith’) was a performance art project I did with 6 models I hired to help me accomplish my vision. The intention was to create a piece around a simple gesture, without a context or narrative, which would target the senses. I imagined a path of human hair, on what the spectators will walk through. The inspiration came form a biblical story, where Mary Magdalene dried Jesus’ feet with her hair. I wanted to recreate a similar gesture, observing the relationship between the spectator and the nude human figure being in a submissive pose. Wanting to return to this project in the future, I presented the documentation of this piece to our class, looking for feedback. I am interested in creating variations of this same gesture, including a bigger variety of people, rethinking the piece by using different age group, race or even gender. I am wondering how the piece would change if the bridge/walkway I am using for this piece would have other functions, if it would connect two places, or protect the audience from the surroundings, as a regular bridge functions. Thank you, Kitty Huffman.
