Alexis Sutherland
Without Nationalsim
Tackling the prompt: “Model the world as you hope it will become”, Alexis Sutherland uses acrylic shades of brown, tan, beige, and bronze to paint abstract intersections of each color. She leaves anyone looking at the piece with the statement: “So what if there were no borders? No walls? No ceilings? No doors? No states? No countries? No language? No dividing up of space? No private property? And what about the mountains and the rivers? Are they still divisive if we don’t say they are? In a world without nationalism all identities intersect.
