Authorship?
In this piece I’m questioning the ideas on authorship. By placing the original and my remake next to each other I want to show the connection between the pieces while at the same time question the ownership I have on my piece. Am I plagiarizing by making a replica of the photograph in a new medium, different orientation, and signing ti with my own name? Or did I create something new? I consciously face the work a new title, and thus a new way of interpreting it. So while these works almost look identical, does the renaming create a new work of art? Or is it still a copy? Additionally, by placing the photograph in a frame that does not fit the dimensions of the photo, am I changing the picture and claiming ownership?
