Animal Commodity
This image shows the frontal view of an installation in the Art Lofts created for the “Curatorial Practice as Process” assignment. The work is called animal commodity and features eight illustrations of cattle taken from an 1886 copy of The Breeder’s Gazette. The etchings are set in gold frames, surrounding one black frame that contains text from the same publication. Layers of thin paper obscure the entirety of the passage, with the exception of select words that reveal a more complicated narrative: “bred … exhibited … shown … slaughtered … Sketched from life by Burk.”
