I felt very proud of myself on this day. It’s not extremely clear, besides that my face is red, but I was whipping egg whites by hand--something both my Grandmother and Mother had told me is never worth it. I was part of a group collaborative dessert for a class of over 20 people and because our chocolate rum cake was the dessert it was important it was done in time for everyone to eat. It took about 15 minutes of standing and whisking in my green apron and metal bowl, but we got it done and the cake was delicious.
